OUTLOOK: Men's Basketball, Football

This blog is for all the Charger fans out there! Welcome to the ever-changing, ever-evolving world of the Charger Sports Network! This blog will analyze statistics as well as provide readers with a comprehensive breakdown of upcoming and past opponents. We will look into the numbers, while keeping you up to date on all the action from atop of the cliff.

Charger Basketball:
O:
The Charger Basketball Empire has once again made its stamp on the national level. With the GPAC coach of the year, Todd Barry, and a phenomenal recruiting class entering the class of 2013, this year should be a pinnacle year for the charger program. Expectations are high for the returners with the likes of 1st team all-conference, honorable mention All-American Kyle Semprini, and 2nd team All-Conference Chase Vander Feen, both setting school records for the 2008-2009 season. Mr. Hustle Matt Geelan will appear back on the hardwood for the Chargers, along with the Barnabas award winning Kelvin Adams.
The Chargers loose big man Mechaelson and MVP Brett Ratcliff who will be missed on the court next year. Coach Barry’s bench over the years has developed one key element in the sports arena… “depth.” With the additions of Wendy’s Heisman winner John Engler, 6 - 9 Michael Collison (yes, his brother Nick does play in the NBA), Aaron Zyzda and eight time letter winner for the Warriors from SBL, 6-7 transfer from Minnesota State University-Mankato Kyle Swanson, 6-8 second team all-state Clay Pagels, University of South Dakota transfer Jared Clement, the list continues. Clearly with players like Morris Smeader and Eric Rohe already making an impact on this last year’s season. The Chargers will be a force nationally! Lace em’ up!
Pre-season X-Factor: Kyle Semprini

Charger Football
X:
Fresh cut grass and leaves turning can only mean one thing… it’s the Gridiron… pigskin…. It’s college football season! A sport that has yet to reign supreme here at BC, but the power is being put into place. The 2009 season brings the excitement and the anticipation for the first recruiting class under Coach Rethman and his staff. The list continues to grow with 30 players from Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, California, Minnesota, Texas, Arizona, Nebraska, Wisconsin, South Dakota, and Mississippi already inked! The athletes are joining the likes of GPAC’s players of the week David Sheppard and Jarrod Makovicka, Wide Receivers Chase Colvin, Luke Roder, and Drew Prohaska and Linebackers Eric Bolin and Taylor Schumacher. With Coach Rethman’s first season under wraps the Charger program is looking to gain ground this year. The squad opens at home this coming fall against Grand View, a team, which on paper the Chargers could defeat chalk up their first win! Look to the Chargers to have some young impactful players this next season. The veterans must continue to stay healthy, while the young players need to step up in order for this program to have a successful season.
Pre-season X-Factor: Off season Training! (Huge) and pre-season preparation

X’s & Oz: The basketball program continues to climb the national ladder, and regionally is becoming a household name, while the Football program struggles to find a foothold on in the ever competitive GPAC conference. The University remains calm and ready with new head coach Tom Rethman at the helm. All I can say is “Charger Fans, Charger Football does not remain the same”. If there was ever a year to do it, the year is 2009!
Looking ahead to the Charger 2009-2010 seasons… this is X’s & OZ. Next, we will take a look at The women's basketball program as well as what can we expect from Coach Mary Schroeder-Miller’s volleyball squad.
